KAAS PLATEAU

INFOGRAPHICS & DATA VISUALISATION

Self Initiative | I week

Kaas Plateau, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in the Satara district, hosts 850+ flowering plant species, including 624 Red Data Book species and several region specific endemics. However, rising tourism once exceeding 1.4 million visitors annually along with soil erosion and climate shifts, has placed this fragile lateritic ecosystem at risk. The study highlights the crucial role of soil conservation, where practices like regulated footfall and restored cattle grazing have increased floral density by 37% and pollinator activity by 42%, ensuring Kaas s ecological continuity.
